Subscriber Node The Subscriber Antenna Node will be designed with a targeted Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) of 7 years under field deployment conditions and It will be designed manufactured with the following characteristics in mind:
- Antenna Array. Will be manufactured as a multi-sided structure containing patch antenna
elements on each side and top and bottom such that when connected to a closely coupled transceiver through a processor controlled phase-switching device, the design will produce 30 to 60 degree steerable beams that will generate approximately 10db of transmit gain and 10 db of received gain when a beam is aimed in a particular direction. Signals arriving off-axis from the aimed direction of the antenna should be attenuated at least 20 db and off axis radiation should also be attenuated at least 20 db. The beams should also be focused vertically to 60 degrees with similar off axis attenuation.
- High Volume Production. To reduce cost, high volume production techniques and materials will be used in the construction of the array such as rigid and/or flexible printed circuit board materials and/or stamped metal parts. The design will be such that minimum manual labor will be required to assemble and test the antenna array structure.
- Electronics Assembly. The antenna electronics assembly will be designed to work in real world temperature and humidity extremes. It may be packaged as a sealed assembly to resist effects of weather.
- Processor. Intel XScale class with sufficient processing power to handle real-time stream encryption as well as other node management and communication tasks.
- Passive Phased Array Beam Switcher. This function can be a PIN diode or FET implementation of our own design or 3rd party provided such as Motia, Airgo, etc.
- Wirespeed Directional Bridge/Router. This function may be implemented in an FPGA chip or may be implemented in node software if the processing speeds are sufficient for wirespeed performance.
- Flash Memory. Sufficient Flash Memory capacity to store the working code and tables of the node as well as sufficient space to simultaneously store a code replacement /update image.
- Working RAM. 16 to 32 megabytes as required by software.
- Boot and Firmware EEROM.
- Power Regulator.
- De-Icing heater element, if deemed necessary.
- Weatherproof Ethernet/Power Connector
- Weatherproof Housing. This will be made from metal and/or molded plastic such that it will provide the antenna electronics sufficient protection from the elements. If a plastic casing is used, we will make every attempt to identify and re-purpose and existing tool.
- Mounting Mast and Braces. Although the Subscriber Antenna unit is described as rooftop mounted, it may be attached to an eve, a wall, a roof slope, roof peak, or chimney. A kit of flexible mounting brackets must be provided to support these possibilities.
- Lightning Arrestor. This should meet national and international building code requirements.
