Independent Service Providers Have A Compelling Need For SkyPipes' Solution:
- Independent Service Providers have rejected other wireless technologies that have capital costs of $400 to $800 per subscriber because their ROI will not be rapid enough.
- They are also not satisfied with low cost, low data rate solutions such as WaveRider which delivers 384 kbps performance on licensed spectrum.
- Some companies who have tried but failed to achieve any significant penetration of the Independent Provider market are: Aperto, Alvarion, Airspan, Soma, and Terabeam. This is principally because their cost points are in the range of $400 to $800 per subscriber and their performance is low. Typically less than 1 Mbps.
- Mesh solutions such as SkyPilot and Tropos are, as a practical matter, limited to serving downtown public spaces and high density housing with relatively low data rates. They can't effectively serve the suburban and semi-rural markets of the Independents that typically have medium and low density housing.
- SkyPipes’ challenges in this marketplace will be to convince a jaded customer base that a SkyPipes network actually delivers the performance (7 to 10 Mbps per subscriber) and the reliability we expect at the cost points we promise ($250 capex per subscriber)
